What's Been "Workin' for Me" this January

Updated: Dec 25, 2023

How has the first month of 2023 already come and gone?!

One of my goals this year for the #SimplyRootedBlog is to share more of the day-to-day things I'm loving. And with intention at the heart of most things I do, I wanted to make sure this wasn't just another "Favorite Things" blog post put out there into the inter-web, but something that truly is a roundup of what's been working for me the last 30+ days.

My vision is for this to be a collaboration of things from health, home, foods, lifestyle, and all that's in between!

...but here's the catch...

I'm committing to *not* sharing things that I just tried for the first time last week on these "Workin' for Me" posts. I want to have backing to what I share and have it be truly implemented into my routines or have had multiple uses by the time I share. Basically, I want to ensure first that the products, items, and routines are actually "Workin' for Me".

So without further ado, here's the (first ever) Workin' for Me on the #SimplyRootedBlog! I hope it can inspire you with new ideas and things to try!

01 | 3 Year Journal

Mmm, what a sweet practice this has been for me! I've always been a big "journal-er", but this 3-year journal is such a fun idea to look back "on this day" for 3 consecutive years! Each page has three sections of lines — one to reflect and write about this particular day today, and the additional ones to use one (and two!) years from now. This layout will allow you to easily reflect what you were doing, what you were processing, and how you've grown over the years. I'm about a month in to this new practice and my favorite things to record in this journal each day is a list of my current gratitude, prayer requests, and big life events or things I've been doing!

*Updated 02/22: unfortunately it looks like the the black version of the journal is currently sold out. However, there is still the red one available!

02 | Weekly & Monthly Planner

Okay, I'll be honest. When it comes to planners and agendas I am a complete snob. Does each month have a note section to write down "big picture" goals for that month? Is there a place to track my weekly to-do list? What about having space for each day to write in my time-blocking schedule? And don't even suggest a planner with LINES in its calendar view... Yes, I admit I may be a *bit* particular when it comes to finding the right agenda planner for the year ahead, but when I say this very one delivered, I MEAN JUST THAT! What I've been loving most — at the beginning of each month it has a page for personal, health, work, and financial goals (mmmm, helllllooooo 2023 pillar building and structuring!). It also has an empty spot at the bottom of this page that I've loved writing in "mini wins" and lines of gratitude for me to look back on when reflecting over each month. It's also served as a great place to write small prayers and praises from the month!

The weekly breakdown between each month is just as lovely. With a designated space not only for your running to-do list, it also has broken-down categories for who to call or email, and what to buy that week — adding SO much more intentionality and purpose to my shopping list (financial freedom here I come!).

03 | Habit Tracker

habit tracker / daily planning sheet (digital download)

I think I've come to learn (but am still learning to accept) that one of my toxic traits is being a big-time dreamer with a small rate of execution... Habit trackers have been flooding my feed lately though and so I decided to create my own and see what all the hype was about.... Let's just say I've found I'm WAY more motivated to hold myself accountable to goals when I can tangibly see the progress (or sometimes lack-there-of) each day. I love these printouts and have mine propped up on my mirror so I see it each day and remind myself what specific steps I'm taking towards achieving my bigger goals!

04 | Sun-less Self Tanner

Okeeey, this sun-less tanner is the MOVE. Clean ingredients, easy to apply, and NO streaking afterwards! I've been using it for the past several months and typically been applying it 1x a week to dry skin after a shower. It's helped me to maintain a natural and simple glow (even in the midst of Minnesota winters...). It's a foam consistency which I find is easier to apply more evenly than the typical lotions that are out there (yes I'm a past-Jergens gal).

05 | THESE Footed Leggings!

Okay, '90's mama's knew what was UP. In all honesty, I had basically these exact leggings growing up but my older sister's pair didn't have the footed loop so I cut mine off to be like her... Turns out 20 years later I'd come to find that I was the sibling with the superior pair of leggings...

I digress... However, what I will say is that these leggings have been a game changer for me this winter! No more tugging on the bottoms to stay put in my sock or having to constantly adjust where it rubs in my shoe. I can't recommend getting on this band wagon enough... and that's saying something knowing where I came from ;)

06 | Bible Reading Plan

Okay, yes I know we're already almost a full month into the year and most people start their reading plans at the beginning of January, but I've been loving this Bible reading plan so much that I had to share it!

It's a "Bible in TWO Years" plan which for me felt waaaay more realistic given my track record. There's nothing worse than starting off with too lofty of goals and quickly having them fall to the wayside... This reading plan works through different books of the Bible and highlights the overlap of many of the stories. It also has some discussion/reflection questions which has helped me be more intentional with my time after reading the scripture for the day. Best part — it's technically a numbered reading plan and not one that follows days of the year... meaning it's not too late for you to start it! ;)

Okay friend, that's a WRAP of the first ever Workin' for Me!

Though it's short, sweet, and somewhat straight to the point, I hope you find it to be useful and helps you to shop with intention when looking for yourself.

**Also please note that some of these links are affiliate links to items that I love! This means I may receive a commission on purchases that are made using the links I share. However, all of these are items that I've bought (& since fallen in love with) on my own apart from any brand deals. I take putting my name behind something very seriously and truly would recommend this to any of my closest girlfriends... including you! I sincerely thank you for considering to use these specific links when purchasing these products for yourself!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on any of these items if you decide to try them and if they too, are workin' for you! ;)
