Hey sis, I care about you and I know you care about your lashes... so I'm going to give you the crunchy-girl's-guide on how to help your eyelashes grow (WITHOUT lathering them in harmful chemicals!)
I think it's fair to say that amongst us woman, one of the first things we notice is when someone has the highly sought, *dReAMy* full lashes — it's truly one of the most striking physical features, imo.
But how can one achieve that without having to pay the high cost to up-keep lash extensions, or use chemically-based products to lengthen their own lashes?
Let me share with you my best-kept secrets of what I've been doing for yeeeeears to achieve longer, fuller eyelashes!
01 | All Natural Makeup Cleanser
This one is crucial to start with which is why I made it tip #1. You need to make sure you are setting yourself (and your lashes!) up for success from the beginning.
Removing your eye makeup is vital for growing your lashes because leaving today's mascara on will only lead to easier breakage of your lashes while sleeping. Having a gentle means to do this, though, is what is going to ensure you aren't damaging your eyelashes when cleansing your face.
I've been using some form of oil cleansing for years and have truly loved what it's done for my skin (and as a makeup remover!) I used this site to learn all the basics from what oil cleansing is, how to do it, and what blend of oils would be best for my skin type. Essentially, when oil cleansing, it breaks up and dissolves the natural oil of your skin without stripping the moisture from it. This helps to keep your face moisturized and glowing while being able to still deep clean the products you layer on daily.
I've dabbled with a few of the recipes, but jumped the most between the dry, oily, and acne prone skin types! I've used these oil cleansing recipes as a base for my own DIY #OilyThyme recipes which I've adapted and grown to love over the years.
Here's the one I've been loving most as of lately —
In a 4 oz dropper bottle: 15 drops | Frankincense essential oil 15 drops | Copaiba essential oil 15 drops | Lavender essential oil 15 drops | Tea tree essential oil 07 drops | Blue Tansy essential oil *Fill the rest with your own oil cleansing blend!
02 | Eyelash Serum
Every night after I clean my face I also make sure to add this step: applying my DIY last serum to enhance growth and strength of my lashes. TBH, this took a bit for me to remember to do, so I began "habit stacking" this step on to ensure it'd get done!
The base of this serum is castor oil. What is this? It's a fatty acid that has shown to specifically have hydrating, moisturizing, and cleansing properties, while also promoting hair growth! On top of this oil, I always add on 3 essential oils that are known to promote hair strength/growth — cedarwood, lavender, and rosemary. Because I'm using EO's close to my eyes, I always keep the mix pretty well diluted and just add a few drops of each.
Mix the following recipe in an empty lash brush from Amazon and start applying it at night to your freshly cleansed lash-line to promote growth and strengthening —
Eyelash Growth Serum: 02 drops | Cedarwood essential oil 02 drops | Lavender essential oil 02 drops | Rosemary essential oil *fill remainder with organic caster oil
03 | Boost your Mascara
An "easy button" step I like to include is putting those three essential oils into my mascara tube for an added boost. That way, whenever I'm putting on my mascara I'm also applying the very oils I know to help my lashes grow and maintain their strength!
In my tube of mascara I usually follow the same 02-02-02 example I just shared, but when I notice my tube getting low or more dried-out, I also will add a few drops of castor oil to help loosen things up and get every last bit of mascara out from the tube (hey, I'm frugal, okayyyyy?)
04 | Collagen
Okay, I hear you. This one may seem a little more far-fetched, but I truly think it's been a game changer for my lashes (and overall hair growth) these last few months!
I have been *hecka* diligent in upping my hydration game and eating a more whole-food based diet (with obvious exceptions here-and-there because, hey — I'm still human and like my indulgences, too!) But collagen has a seriously underrated rap for some MAJOR things in our body.
Not only is collagen a great supplement for your hair, skin, and nails, but it also extends to supporting your gut, joints, and other connective tissues in your body.
I could write a whole post on collagen alone (and maybe one day I just might), but until then, what I will say is this: I've been buying and using collagen daily for yeeeeears and have NOT seen results like I have these last few months....
Liquid collage is where👏🏼 it's👏🏼 at👏🏼 ...!
More bioavailable (easier for our bodies to absorb), and derived from a source most similar to that of our own collagen — because who knew THAT was important...?!
Anyway, I digress for now but the collagen touch-points are that it does wonders for our aging process including hair growth (hellooooo lovely lashes!)
